This brooch is an older piece, from the pre-eagle era (pre-1940s) and is marked TAXCO 980, indicating it is 980 parts silver, higher than the common 925 parts for "Sterling Silver." The pin extends the catch significantly, and the piece weighs 5.8 grams.
