The Continuation Before My Eyes, Jin Ohashi
publisher/published: Seigensha/1999
format/pages/size: Hardcover/-/180*260*23

A collection of works by Japanese photographer Jin Ohashi, "The Continuation Before My Eyes." With powerful imagery that uses "life" and "death," "sex" and "self" as motifs, and Ohashi's characteristic straightforward expression, Araki Nobuyoshi called it "terrible." Ohashi has been active since the 2000s, shooting cover photos and promotional videos for artists like Mr. Children and Yuzu. In 2012, he photographed the interactions of 300 men and women on a deserted island in "I Think I'll Sit There," capturing unadorned "strength," "vitality," and straightforward "sexuality." In 2023, he released "Hajimete Atta" (First Met), which seemed to return to the origins of photographic expression. It is rare to find a photographer who continues to pursue such pure expression. This is Ohashi's first book. It is a masterpiece that weaves together the world of "life" and "death" through a somewhat surreal everyday life, incorporating his father's attempted suicide, and the world of "sex" and "self" through his own and his surroundings' daily life.
