This crouching cat may have served as a votive offering to the cat-shaped goddess Bastet. The main place of worship was Bubastis in the eastern delta. The Greek historian has transmitted a vivid picture of festivals and cult celebrations.
Original: Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Late period. Around 500 BC.
